Giving to CALA
As time changes some things in the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, many things still remain the same. Our foundation of excellence remains true to our respect for the characteristics of place and our involvement with the communities of which we are a part. Our Sonoran Desert setting offers students and faculty inspiration and guidance in the study of delicate and unique ecologies worldwide.
While the College continues to advance in many exciting ways, the dreams of today's students differ little from those of students 10, 20, or even 30 years ago. Students still need and deserve an environment of discovery, experience and investigation. Like earlier generations of students, today's students still dream about the impact they will have on environmentas and cultures well beyond graduation.
Those dreams need your support.
It's clear that our College has entered a new era. We have new leaders, each of whom shares the same values of innovation, teamwork and making an impact on the professions. Faculty, staff and students are collaborating, reaching out and conceptualizing like never before. The look and feel of CALA is different. The U of A, as well as numerous alumni and friends, has made financial commitments to make the new bulding and current renovation efforts a reality. But we need your input and effort, as members of the profession, to fully create a new way of thinking and doing to impact our students and your professions.
Remaining effective and competitive in higher education today requires reamwork and a systematic, long-term focus on friend raising and fund raising. Only 28% of CALA's budget is derived from state-allocated funds--that's a significant decline over the past 10 years that negatively impacts our students and our professions. In fact, more that $500,000 has been cut from CALA's budget over the past couple of years. It's clear that we're no longer a state university. We're state-assisted and quickly moving toward the world of privatization. We need your help, both volunteer and financial, to ensure and enhance CALA's levels of excellence.
CALA is committed to reconnecting with stakeholders to build long-term partnerships that could create:
---a zeal for seeking innovation, discovery, and achievement;
---a mentoring opportunity between you and a student;
---a collaboration between you and a faculty member, thereby impacting our curriculum;
---a more knowledgeable workforce to impact the success of your professions;
---a financial impact on our student scholarships, programs, and faculty research.
So how can you help advance your College and the professions?
---Get involved.
---The building: tour our new world.
---Open doors to friends who could financially impact CALA.
---Coordinate an event at your home or business.
---Make an annual, major, or planned gift.
---Offer your volunteer support.
---Share your ideas.
The bottom line is that we've entered new terrain in the life of our College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. While market instabilities have certainly fueled a focus on development, the primary reasons for this new era are simply these:
---a love for our College and our professions--we hear this daily from our alumni and friends; and
---a sincere desire to spur innovations and achievements in our professions.
